Before Ordak
Bannos Cakes is a custom cake bakery in Sydney. Most of its orders come in through its Shopify store — birthday cakes, wedding tiers, custom occasion cakes, each with bespoke designs, delivery windows, and customer notes.
For years, the workflow was paper. Orders printed in the morning, clipped to boards above benches, and passed between decorators, kitchen staff, and couriers through the day. It mostly worked. Until it didn’t.
Orders fell behind ovens. Notes got smudged. A cake labelled for Tuesday pickup would sit in the fridge past Wednesday because nobody realised it was done. Missing orders became a weekly problem — a pattern that chips away at both revenue and reputation in a business that lives and dies on trust.
Bannos had tried three different apps to fix it. Each one slotted into one slice of the workflow — inventory here, Shopify sync there, a delivery tool that required morning button-pressing — but none of them made the whole pipeline visible at once. The cakes, the bakers, the couriers, and the customers were still linked together by paper and memory.
The switch to Ordak
Ordak Manufacturing replaced the paper and the boards. Every Shopify order now flows in automatically as a production ticket with the customer’s design brief, pickup or delivery date, and special notes attached. Each cake gets a barcode that follows it from decorators’ bench to fridge to pickup board.
Decorators see the queue that matters to them. The kitchen lead sees the whole floor. The pickup board shows customers their order is ready without anyone needing to call out across a bakery.
Ordak Go replaced the checkout hack that used to capture delivery dates. Postcode validation happens in the cart, before customers commit. Ordak Delivery — in the first bakeries running it — handles the actual routing when a cake has to travel.
Results after 30 days
Thirty days in, the numbers are simple and direct: zero missing orders. Every cake tracked end-to-end with a scan. Three apps removed from the stack. Staff productivity that used to live in people’s heads is now visible on a dashboard.
